Massive Ganja Haul in Sonepur: Two Arrested, Kingpin on the Run
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Odisha police seized 167 kilograms of ganja and arrested two individuals in Sonepur district following a high-speed chase and coordinated raids.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by SI Deepti Ranjan Digal pursued a white Indigo ECS suspected of transporting ganja. The chase led officers to a warehouse in Haradakhol village owned by Gulu Sahu, where 51.2 kg of ganja was found packed in sacks.
The driver, Bishikeshan Bhoi (45) from Kantamal, and Gaurishankar Mallik (40) from Buromunda were arrested on the spot. The vehicle (OD31-5955) was seized, and both suspects were booked under NDPS Act sections 20(b)(ii)C/25/29.
Further investigation led police to Mallik’s residence opposite the warehouse, where an additional 116 kg of ganja was recovered from a locked room in the presence of a magistrate and witnesses. A second case was registered under the NDPS Act section 20(b)(ii)C/29.
Gulu Sahu, believed to be the mastermind behind the operation, remains at large. Authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle the trafficking network.
This seizure highlights the growing challenge of narcotics distribution in rural Odisha and the proactive stance of law enforcement in curbing the menace.
