Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay of Bengal: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 9 — A fresh cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal by October 10, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar. While the system is not projected to intensify significantly, it is likely to influence weather conditions across Odisha.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several districts over the coming days.
The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, initially expected around October 15, may be delayed due to prevailing atmospheric conditions.
A yellow warning has been issued for 24 districts, including Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Malkangiri, and Koraput. For October 10, a statewide yellow alert has been announced, urging residents to remain cautious.
The IMD has also issued a safety advisory, recommending that people avoid sheltering under trees, stay away from open fields and water bodies, and move indoors immediately upon hearing thunder.
Meteorologists suggest that gradual changes in wind direction may soon create favorable conditions for monsoon withdrawal from western Odisha.
