Hamas-Israel truce deal

PM Modi welcomes Hamas-Israel truce deal, hopes for lasting peace

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today welcomed the agreement on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, calling it a reflection of the “strong leadership” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu,” Modi said on X.

The Prime Minister also expressed hope that the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will “bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”
His remarks came shortly after President Trump announced that Hamas, the Gaza-based Palestinian militant organisation, and Israel had agreed to the first phase of the Gaza peace deal.

According to Trump, the plan includes a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of Israeli hostages by Hamas, and the release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel.

The office of the Israeli Prime Minister confirmed the “historic achievement” of the Gaza deal and said that both Netanyahu and Trump had spoken over the phone regarding the agreement.
Hamas has also confirmed its acceptance of the deal, which includes an end to the conflict in Gaza, withdrawal of Israeli troops, and an exchange of prisoners and hostages.

As per the agreement, Hamas will release 20 living hostages and return the remains of those who have died, while Israel will release Palestinian prisoners, including Gazans arrested after the October 7, 2023 attacks.
