Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 to Be Held in Two Phases; EC Rolls Out 17 Reforms

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled the schedule for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s democratic journey.

Voting will take place in two phases—November 6 and November 11—with results to be declared on November 14. The current assembly’s term ends on November 22.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced 17 new initiatives aimed at boosting transparency, accessibility, and efficiency.

These include the launch of the ECINet app for streamlined voter services, redesigned EVMs featuring colored candidate photos and bold serial numbers, and senior-friendly polling booths with wheelchair access.

Bihar’s updated voter list now includes 7.42 crore registered voters, with 14 lakh first-time participants.

The list underwent a Special Intensive Revision (SIR)—the first major overhaul in 22 years—finalised on September 30. Citizens may still raise objections.

Political momentum is building as alliances like JD(U)-BJP and the Mahagathbandhan (RJD-Congress) prepare for a high-stakes contest.

Candidate lists are being released, and seat-sharing negotiations are underway. Public discourse has also been stirred by comparisons between CM Nitish Kumar and global leaders.

The ECI emphasised zero tolerance for election-related violence and urged parties to appoint polling and counting agents to ensure transparency.

With these reforms, Bihar’s election is poised to set a benchmark for future polls across India.
