Odisha Speaker Surama Padhy to Attend CPC 2025 in Barbados, Lead Gender-Sensitive Dialogue

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy is set to participate in the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Bridgetown, Barbados, joining a high-level Indian delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The conference, running from October 5 to 12, brings together representatives from 56 member countries of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

Padhy will also attend the 9th Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference, where she is scheduled to address a special session on gender-sensitive parliamentary practices. Her participation underscores Odisha’s growing presence in global democratic dialogues.

Following the CPC, Padhy will embark on a study tour to London, Zurich, and Paris. In London, she will engage with the Odia diaspora and visit the British Museum to view historical artefacts linked to India’s freedom struggle.

Her itinerary includes meetings with officials from the Indian High Commission and cultural exchanges with Odia communities abroad.

Representing the Ranpur constituency, Padhy’s international engagements reflect a blend of diplomacy, heritage, and advocacy for inclusive governance. She is expected to return to Odisha on October 19.
