Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi commemorated the birth centenary of Baji Rout, India’s youngest martyr in the freedom movement, with heartfelt tributes and a state-level celebration in Nilakanthapur village, Dhenkanal district.
At just 12 years old, Baji Rout laid down his life resisting British forces, becoming a symbol of youthful courage and patriotism.
Marking the occasion, CM Majhi, Speaker Surama Padhy, and several legislators and youth leaders participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Baji Rout’s statue near the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister shared his tribute on social media, calling Baji Rout’s sacrifice “a historic act of valour that continues to inspire generations.” A state-level event in the martyr’s native village was also announced to honour his legacy.
The tribute not only rekindled public memory of Rout’s sacrifice but also underscored the importance of recognising regional heroes in India’s freedom narrative.
