Class 8 Boy Assaulted at Khallikote Coaching Centre, Hospitalized After Brutal Beating
Khallikote, — A Class 8 student was hospitalised after allegedly being assaulted by a teacher at a local coaching centre in Khallikote.
The incident occurred when the boy, who was watching a Ramayana play at a puja mandap, was forcibly taken to the coaching centre and beaten, resulting in visible injuries and bleeding.
Local residents rushed the student to Khallikote Group Health Centre for treatment.
The boy’s guardian, Simanchal Behera, condemned the teacher’s actions, stating that educators should guide students morally, not resort to violence.
Although the teacher later apologised and the matter was resolved without police involvement, the incident has sparked widespread concern.
Khallikote hosts over 50 coaching centres, and allegations of unethical practices and student exploitation have surfaced in recent months.
Parents are now demanding weekly inspections, mandatory registration of coaching centres, and stricter police monitoring to prevent future incidents. Many centres reportedly employ both government and private teachers, with students—especially girls—travelling from nearby blocks to attend classes.
The incident has reignited calls for regulatory reforms to ensure student safety and accountability in Odisha’s booming coaching industry.
