Odisha CID Nabs Key Operative in Police Recruitment Scam; 117 Already Arrested
In a major breakthrough, the Odisha CID Crime Branch has arrested Biswaranjan Behera, a 29-year-old resident of Bidyadharpur, Cuttack, for his alleged role in the Police Sub-Inspector recruitment scam.
Behera is accused of acting as a middleman for a criminal syndicate that manipulated the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) examination process for profit.
According to officials, Behera collected original certificates and blank cheques from aspirants and passed them to higher-level operatives under the syndicate’s direction.
His arrest on October 3 follows the earlier detention of 117 individuals linked to the scam, which originated at Golanthara Police Station and was later handed over to the CID for deeper investigation.
The case is being prosecuted under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
Authorities are now analysing digital evidence and financial trails to identify further conspirators.
This development underscores serious vulnerabilities in public recruitment systems. Officials have pledged strict action and systemic reforms to restore integrity and public trust.
