Odisha Reels Under Torrential Rains as Deep Depression Weakens After Landfall
Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to grapple with the aftermath of a deep depression that made landfall near Gopalpur late Thursday night, triggering widespread rainfall and disruptions across coastal and southern districts.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, the system unleashed heavy to extremely heavy showers, leading to waterlogging, traffic snarls, and power outages.
Gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph uprooted trees and damaged infrastructure in several areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Sundargarh district and Yellow Alerts for multiple others, urging residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and riverbank regions.
Disaster management teams and district administrations are on high alert, coordinating relief efforts and preparing for potential emergencies.
While the depression is expected to weaken further, sporadic heavy showers may persist in northern and western Odisha over the next 24 hours.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with official advisories as the situation evolves.
