Urvashi Rautela Grilled by ED Over Alleged Links to Illegal Betting App 1xBet
Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in New Delhi on Tuesday, responding to a summons related to the ongoing investigation into the illegal betting platform 1xBet.
The federal agency is probing allegations of money laundering and celebrity endorsements tied to the app, which is accused of violating India’s gaming and financial regulations.
Rautela, reportedly listed as the “India ambassador” for 1xBet—a Curacao-registered platform—joins a growing list of public figures questioned by the ED. Cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan, actor Sonu Sood, and TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty have also faced scrutiny.
Investigators are examining how celebrities were approached, the nature of their contracts, and whether payments were routed through legitimate banking channels or hawala networks.
The ED is also assessing whether endorsement fees were used to acquire assets considered “proceeds of crime” under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The probe comes amid a broader crackdown on real-money online gaming, recently banned by the Union government due to concerns over addiction, financial fraud, and illicit transactions.
With over 22 crore Indian users previously active on such platforms, the investigation marks a pivotal moment in India’s digital regulatory landscape.
