PM Modi Highlights Tax Relief Under Next-Gen GST at UP Trade Show
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the inauguration of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025, spotlighted the transformative impact of Next-Generation GST reforms on India’s taxation landscape.
Citing a relatable example, Modi said that prior to 2014, a Rs 1,000 shirt attracted Rs 117 in taxes. With the introduction of GST in 2017, the tax dropped to Rs 50.
Under the newly implemented Next-Gen GST framework, the same item now incurs just Rs 35 in tax.
“This reform is not just about numbers—it’s about empowering households, small traders, and entrepreneurs,” Modi stated.
He emphasised that the streamlined tax structure promotes transparency, curbs evasion, and fosters a level playing field for businesses of all sizes.
The Prime Minister also assured that further steps will be taken to simplify and modernise India’s tax system, making it more equitable and growth-oriented.
The trade show, which drew participation from domestic and international exhibitors, served as a platform to showcase India’s evolving business environment and policy-driven economic momentum.
