Odisha Assembly Adjourned After 7-Minute Uproar Over Panchayat Powers

Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: The Odisha Legislative Assembly was thrown into disarray on Tuesday as opposition members staged a vociferous protest over the alleged curtailment of Panchayat representatives’ powers.

The disruption began during Question Hour, with BJD legislators shouting slogans and waving placards beneath the Speaker’s podium.

Congress members joined the protest, accusing the ruling party of mismanaging the House and failing to uphold democratic procedures. Despite repeated appeals for order, the Speaker was forced to adjourn the session just seven minutes after it began.

The incident underscores growing tensions over decentralisation and local governance, with opposition parties demanding clarity and accountability from the state government.
