Bhubaneswar Rolls Out 1,500 AI Cameras to Boost Urban Safety and Smart Governance
Bhubaneswar has taken a decisive step toward becoming a safer, smarter city with the installation of 1,500 AI-powered CCTV cameras across key urban zones.
Spearheaded by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL), the initiative aims to enhance public safety, streamline traffic management, and support law enforcement with real-time surveillance and analytics.
The cameras are equipped with advanced facial recognition and behavioural analysis capabilities, enabling authorities to detect suspicious activity and crowd formations instantly.
In addition, the system flags traffic violations such as helmetless riding, wrong-side driving, overspeeding, and signal jumping—ensuring stricter enforcement of road safety norms.
All feeds are routed to a centralised command centre, where trained personnel monitor live footage and coordinate rapid response with police teams.
The system also generates data-driven insights on traffic flow, congestion hotspots, and accident-prone zones, aiding urban planners in designing more efficient infrastructure.
City officials believe this tech-forward move aligns with India’s Smart City Mission and positions Bhubaneswar as a model for AI-integrated urban governance.
