Bolangir Police Transfer Two IICs After Public Outrage and Viral Scandals
Bolangir, — In a swift response to mounting public pressure and viral social media outrage, the Bolangir district police have transferred two Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs) following separate controversies at Saintala and Kantabanji police stations.
The first incident occurred at the Badmal outpost under Saintala police station, where miscreants allegedly assaulted officer Harekrushna Majhi. Despite personally visiting the site, Saintala IIC Sushanta Kumar Badhei reportedly failed to take immediate action.
The situation escalated after footage of the attack circulated widely online. Acting on orders from SP Abhilash G, a case was registered and key accused Ramesh Bastia was arrested. Badhei has since been moved to the district headquarters.
In a separate case, Kantabanji IIC Rashmita Behera faced backlash after her husband, Aravind Mahapatra, was accused of misbehaving with a youth while intoxicated.
Allegations surfaced that Behera used her position to intimidate the victim, prompting over 100 locals to protest outside the station.
Despite written complaints, no FIR was filed, leading to further outrage. Behera was transferred to Saintala, and Gopal Chandra Karna was appointed as the new IIC of Kantabanji.
Additional reshuffles include SI Saroj Rath’s posting to Saintala and SI Panchanan Khuas’s transfer to Turekela. The moves are seen as a bid to restore public trust and reinforce discipline within the force.
