Low Pressure Weakens, But IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall Across Odisha
Bhubaneswar, August 28 (oT Webdesk)— The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the well-marked low-pressure system over south coastal Odisha has weakened into a low-pressure area.
As of 5:30 am today, the system lies over South Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh, and is expected to move west-northwestward within the next 24 hours.
Despite the weakening, the IMD has issued an orange warning for Malkangiri, forecasting heavy rainfall in the district today.
A yellow warning has also been sounded for Koraput, Nabarangapur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri, where thunderstorms and heavy showers are likely.
Additionally, gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected in Rayagada, Nuapada, Balangir, and nearby regions. The weather department has extended the yellow warning across various parts of Odisha until August 31, urging residents to remain alert and follow safety advisories.
Authorities have advised caution, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as the rainfall may disrupt normal life and transport.
