Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Refutes Mamata Banerjee’s Allegations, Says Only Illegal Immigrants Targeted

(OT webdesk)In a sharp rebuttal to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent claims, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi asserted that no Bengali citizens are being harassed in Odisha.

Speaking at an event in Bhubaneswar, Majhi dismissed Banerjee’s accusations as “falsehoods,” clarifying that police checks are solely aimed at identifying illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

“Odisha has always been a safe haven for Bengalis, especially those displaced during Partition and the formation of Bangladesh,” Majhi said.

He emphasised that individuals with valid documentation have nothing to fear, and the state remains committed to protecting lawful residents.

Majhi further argued that undocumented infiltrators pose a threat to local employment and economic stability. “If Bangladeshi infiltrators sneak in and take away our people’s jobs, we are duty-bound to act,” he stated.

The exchange has sparked renewed political tension between the neighboring states, with implications for regional cooperation and migrant policy enforcement.
