
Odisha Police’s Operation Garuda Nets 3,643 NBWs, Massive Seizures Across State
(OT Webdesk)In a sweeping 16-day crackdown dubbed Operation Garuda, Odisha Police have executed 3,643 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and dismantled multiple illegal networks across the state. Launched on August 1, the operation targeted excise violations, drug trafficking, gambling, and drunk driving.
Authorities registered 1,806 excise cases, seizing over 47,000 litres of liquor, 3,030 kg of ganja, 664 grams of brown sugar, 63 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, and Rs 1.45 lakh in cash. The gambling crackdown led to 70 cases, 406 arrests, and the confiscation of vehicles, mobile phones, and Rs 6.28 lakh in cash.
Ganjam district emerged as a hotspot, executing 383 NBWs and recovering 11 firearms. Drunk driving enforcement resulted in 163 arrests.
ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar stated that the operation, initially planned for a week, was extended due to its success. “Operation Garuda has instilled fear among offenders and reaffirmed our commitment to sustained enforcement,” he said.
The scale and precision of the operation underscore Odisha Police’s intensified focus on organised crime and public safety.
