
Two Schoolboys Drown in Dayanadi on Janmashtami
Bhubaneswar, August 17(OT webdesk): In a heartbreaking incident on Janmashtami, two eighth-grade students drowned in the Dayanadi River near Dhauli, Bhubaneswar.
The victims—Abhaya Swain and Shubham Pradhan—had skipped school on Independence Day and visited the river with two friends for bathing.
The group entered the water near the Jadmalli Peeth area. Shubham began to drown, prompting Abhaya to attempt a rescue. Tragically, both were swept away. Their friends raised an alarm, and locals alerted emergency services.
Firefighters and police launched a search operation. Abhaya’s body was recovered after an hour, while Shubham’s was found the next morning near Gangeshwarpura.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the local community. Both bodies were sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem.
