
Heavy Rainfall Alert in Odisha: IMD Issues Orange Warning as Bay of Bengal System Strengthens
Bhubaneswar, August 17(OT Webdesk) — A fresh low-pressure area forming over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal is set to bring intense rainfall across Odisha, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts, warning of potential flooding and waterlogging in low-lying regions.
Rainfall has already begun in several districts, with intensity expected to peak over the next 48 hours. A Yellow Alert has been issued for 24 districts today, forecasting 7–11 cm of rain. Orange Alerts are in place for Koraput and Malkangiri on August 18, and for Koraput and Kalahandi on August 19.
Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea between August 18 and 20 due to rough conditions. Coastal districts including Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Balasore are under Yellow Alert from August 20 to 21.
Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to remain vigilant as the continuous downpour may disrupt daily life and pose safety risks.
