Bhubaneswar Hit-and-Run: Scorpio Driver Nabbed, Thar Driver Still Elusive

Bhubaneswar, (OT webdesk)— A tragic hit-and-run incident on Raksha Bandhan has left the city reeling, as 35-year-old Rebati Raul and her 8-year-old daughter Reshma lost their lives in Patrapada after being struck by a speeding Mahindra Thar SUV.

The vehicle was allegedly racing alongside a Scorpio when the accident occurred.

Police have arrested Ankit Sahu, the 22-year-old Scorpio driver from Gangapada, Khordha, along with his associate Krushnachandra Pradhan.

The Thar was later traced and seized in Jatni, but its driver remains untraced, sparking public outrage over the slow pace of justice.

Rebati’s son, who also sustained injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. In response to the tragedy, the Odisha government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 8 lakh for the bereaved family.

However, citizens continue to demand swift accountability and improved road safety measures.
