IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Odisha Amid Intensifying Low-Pressure System
Bhubaneswar, August 14 (OT webdesk)— The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a three-day rainfall warning for Odisha as a low-pressure system brews over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
According to the regional weather office, the system is expected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area within 12 hours, triggering widespread showers across the state.
Rainfall that began on Wednesday has continued unabated, with moderate to heavy downpours forecast for Thursday.
An orange alert has been sounded for the Koraput and Malkangiri districts, where rainfall may range between 7 to 20 cm.
The remaining 28 districts are under a yellow alert, with warnings of severe rain and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow safety advisories as the weather system evolves.
