(OT Webdesk)In a bold move to foster gender equality and campus safety, the Odisha government has mandated the formation of Shaktishree Empowerment Cells in all state-run and aided colleges by August 25.
Spearheaded by the Higher Education Department, the initiative aims to create inclusive spaces that promote leadership, self-defence, and awareness among young women.
Each cell will be led by a female faculty member, designated as Shaktishree Sanjojika, supported by a peer leader (Shaktishree Saathi) and female class representatives from every department. The cells will host a range of activities, including:
- Six-day self-defence training
- Weekly yoga and meditation sessions
- IEC campaigns on women’s rights and safety
- Workshops aligned with a thematic calendar
Key deadlines include:
- August 14: Selection of female class representatives
- August 20: Appointment of Shaktishree Saathi
