Shaktishree Cells to Empower Women Across Odisha Campuses by August 25

(OT Webdesk)In a bold move to foster gender equality and campus safety, the Odisha government has mandated the formation of Shaktishree Empowerment Cells in all state-run and aided colleges by August 25.

Spearheaded by the Higher Education Department, the initiative aims to create inclusive spaces that promote leadership, self-defence, and awareness among young women.

Each cell will be led by a female faculty member, designated as Shaktishree Sanjojika, supported by a peer leader (Shaktishree Saathi) and female class representatives from every department. The cells will host a range of activities, including:

  • Six-day self-defence training
  • Weekly yoga and meditation sessions
  • IEC campaigns on women’s rights and safety
  • Workshops aligned with a thematic calendar

Key deadlines include:

  • August 14: Selection of female class representatives
  • August 20: Appointment of Shaktishree Saathi
  • August 25: Full establishment of the cells

This initiative marks a significant step toward empowering women in higher education and building safer, more responsive campuses across Odisha.
