FM College Student Suicide Case: Two Students Arrested for Abetment in Odisha
(OT Webdesk)In a chilling development, nearly three weeks after the self-immolation of a female student at FM College, Odisha Crime Branch has arrested two male students—Subhra Sambit Nayak and Jyoti Prakash Biswal—on charges of criminal conspiracy and abetment of suicide.
Investigators are also probing whether their actions amount to murder conspiracy.
The arrests, made late Sunday night, follow mounting evidence, including forensic analysis, digital trails, and eyewitness accounts that allegedly link the duo to the events leading up to the victim’s death.
Notably, Jyoti Prakash, who earlier claimed he tried to save the girl, is now suspected of staging the act to deflect suspicion.
This comes after the earlier arrest of FM College Principal Dillip Ghosh and B.Ed HoD Sameer Sahu for negligence and suspected complicity. All four individuals remain in custody.
The victim, who set herself ablaze on July 12 within the college premises, succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar days later.
The incident triggered statewide outrage, with students and civil society groups alleging systemic harassment and administrative apathy.
With the investigation still underway, officials say more arrests are possible as they explore all angles—including psychological pressure, faculty misconduct, and toxic campus culture.
