Ex-Superintending Engineer sentenced to 2 yrs RI and Rs 1 lakh fine in DA case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 1 (UNI) The Special Judge, Vigilance Court, Bhubaneswar, sentenced former Superintending Engineer Madan Mohan Samantaray to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

According to the sources from the Odisha Vigilance Directorate, Samantaray, a retired officer from the Irrigation Eastern Circle, Cuttack, was convicted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

He was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Following his conviction, Vigilance authorities said that they will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of his pension.
