Odisha Scraps Metro Tender, Plans Fresh Push for Bhubaneswar Project

(OT webdesk)In a strategic move to revamp its flagship urban transport initiative, the Odisha government has cancelled the previous tender awarded to Ceigall India and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the Bhubaneswar Metro project.

The decision follows a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo on July 16, where officials reviewed existing plans and opted for a fresh framework.

Urban Development Minister Usha Devi confirmed that revised proposals are being drafted and will soon be submitted to the Central Government for approval and funding. “The metro project will continue with full cooperation from the Centre.

A new plan will be finalised shortly to ensure the project meets modern standards and timelines,” she stated.

The Bhubaneswar Metro is envisioned as a transformative step to enhance urban infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion in the capital city.

With the old contract scrapped, the government is expected to float new tenders and finalise implementation strategies in the coming months.

This reset signals Odisha’s commitment to delivering a modern, efficient metro system that aligns with national urban mobility goals.
