(OT Webdesk)In a momentous celebration of sporting excellence, seven athletes from Odisha Police returned home with 20 medals from the World Police & Fire Games 2025 held in Birmingham, USA.
Representing India on the global stage, the contingent secured 13 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals across athletics and karate events.
The Director General of Police, Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, hosted a grand felicitation ceremony at his camp office on July 19, lauding the winners for their discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship. “Your achievements will inspire Odisha’s youth and carve new milestones for our force,” said DGP Khurania.
Among the star performers, Ashok Dandasena led the medal tally with 7 golds and 1 silver across track and marathon events. Susmita Tiga impressed with 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze, while Sabita Toppo clinched a gold and two bronze medals in hurdle events.
Karate champions D. Bhagwan Reddy, Suman Sekhar Das, and Ritesh Ray each secured gold in their respective weight categories. Abhishek Pattnaik earned a bronze in Individual Kata.
The returning athletes were accorded a warm reception at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, welcomed with flower garlands and cheers led by Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena.
Senior officials, including ADGs Arun Bothra and Rajesh Kumar, Commissioner Dr. S. Dev Datta Singh, and Sports Officer Nilamadhav Swai, attended the ceremony.
This landmark achievement not only uplifts Odisha Police’s stature in international sports but also highlights the growing influence of Indian police athletes on the global stage.
