All Chit Fund victims will get their money back: Odisha BJP chief

Bhubaneswar, July 4 (UNI) Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal today assured that all eligible victims of the chit fund scam in the state will get their money back.

Addressing a press conference at the state party office, Samal said the BJP government has begun preparing a list of eligible depositors affected by the scam.

Within just one year in office, the government has refunded the money of 1,26,137 depositors, he claimed.

Samal said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has recently announced that in the next 3–4 months, funds will be refunded in phases to another five lakh eligible depositors.

The BJP president alleged that the previous BJD government betrayed the people’s trust, allowing nearly 174 chit fund companies to defraud thousands of depositors.

He blamed former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and several BJD ministers, MPs, and MLAs for their alleged involvement in the scam, stating that some had even been jailed.

“People of Odisha invested their hard-earned money in chit fund companies with hope and trust in the BJD government, but their trust was shattered,” Samal said.

He further criticised the BJD for failing to implement the corpus fund it had created and for not making the report of the Commission of Inquiry public.

Samal reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment, as promised in its election manifesto, to refund every eligible depositor. He said a mechanism will be established to ensure refunds upon submission of proper evidence.
