PM Modi Rebuts US Mediation Claims, Affirms Operation Sindoor Still Active

Operation Sindoor India Pakistan

New Delhi, June 18(OT Webdesk): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmly denied claims made by former US President Donald Trump regarding American mediation in the recent India-Pakistan military de-escalation.

In a 35-minute phone call—initiated by Trump after a missed G7 meeting—Modi clarified that the de-escalation in May was a purely bilateral decision, coordinated through military channels, not influenced by any third party.

Addressing the media, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri revealed that Modi reiterated India’s longstanding policy of rejecting foreign involvement in matters of national security.

He emphasised that Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, remains ongoing and continues to target terror infrastructure across Pakistan and PoK.

Modi underscored India’s right to retaliate against cross-border attacks, describing the May 9–10 strikes as “measured and non-escalatory,” but notably effective, damaging Pakistani airbases and military assets.

He further noted that it was Pakistan that initiated the ceasefire request via DGMOs, and there were no talks of trade or diplomacy with the US during the four-day conflict.

The leaders also exchanged views on global flashpoints such as Israel-Iran tensions, the Russia-Ukraine war, and reaffirmed Indo-Pacific cooperation under the Quad framework.

Modi extended an invitation to Trump for the upcoming Quad Summit in India, which Trump accepted.

This marks Modi’s first public rebuttal of Trump’s claims, reaffirming India’s sovereign approach to security and diplomacy.
