Kolkata ( OT Webdesk): The ongoing debate surrounding the Digha Jagannath Temple took a new turn as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke out, questioning the outrage surrounding the issue.
She emphasised that all temples, including the revered Puri Jagannath Temple, deserve respect.
The controversy has sparked heated exchanges between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, with the latter accusing Banerjee of being anti-Hindu.
The debate intensified following the Prana Pratistha (consecration ceremony) at the Digha Jagannath Temple, where sacred materials from Odisha’s famous Puri temple were reportedly used.
Adding to the friction, social media has witnessed a surge in posts discouraging Bengali tourists from visiting Puri, with some alleging conspiracies against Odisha. The tension highlights deeper cultural and political divisions, with both sides defending their perspectives.
While Banerjee insists that temples should be respected everywhere, BJP leaders continue their criticisms, fueling further discussions. As the debate escalates, the temple controversy remains a focal point in regional politics.
