Following the tragic road accident on the Joda-Barbil main road, where 44-year-old Santosh Das lost his life, his family has now received financial assistance. The aid was facilitated by local authorities in presence of Barbil Municipality area’s Member of Parliament representative Nilamani Mahanta.
The fatal accident, caused by overtaking, roadside parking, and overspeeding, led to massive unrest in the area. Locals and colleagues of the deceased staged a protest, demanding better road safety measures. The Barbil police arrived at the scene to control the situation and managed to restore normalcy.
In response to the tragedy, MP representative Nilamani Mahanta urged officials to provide financial relief to the deceased’s family. Acting on this request, Barbil Tehsildar Rakesh Kumar Panda ensured that Santosh Das’s widow, Rashmita Das, received ₹ 30,000 in financial aid. The assistance was formally handed over in the presence of MP representative Neelmani Mahanta.
