Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: As Odisha prepares to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the upcoming academic session, admissions for Sishu Vatika will open for students in April this year.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced this during the ‘National Workshop on Implementation of NEP 2020’ held in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. In his inaugural address, he urged the Chief Minister of Odisha to officially launch the primary education initiative under the NEP format on an auspicious date in April, allowing enrollment for children aged five at Sishu Vatika-3 in 63,000 schools across the state.
Criticizing the previous BJD government for neglecting the NEP, Pradhan stated that their focus was on entertainment rather than educational reform. In contrast, the BJP government recognizes the significance of primary education and aims to bring about meaningful changes through NEP implementation.
Pradhan emphasized that children in Odisha will be introduced to NEP with a playful approach, incorporating toys, songs, and music into their learning experience. He also mentioned plans to visit villages in May and June to address the issue of student dropouts and encourage parents to prioritize education for their children.
The implementation of NEP 2020 is expected to integrate Odisha’s rich heritage and the region’s historical contributions in mathematics, science, and architecture into modern education, providing students with global exposure while staying connected to their cultural roots.
