Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Oct 4: Surprise raids were conducted at Sambalpur and Bargarh jails early Friday morning, leading to the recovery of various objectionable items, including pills, cigarettes, and other intoxicants. The raids began at 3:30 AM in Sambalpur jail, where all 22 wards were meticulously searched in the presence of local magistrates and senior police officials.
The raiding team included seven inspectors, two SDPOs, four platoons of force, and an additional SP. Senior officials suspect that some jail staff may be involved in facilitating the entry of these intoxicants into the prison.
In a similar operation at 5:00 AM, Bargarh Jail was also raided, led by Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena with a team of 14 officers and two platoons. In addition to the intoxicants, some medicines and cash were recovered from the premises. Senior police officials have stated that action will be taken, and jail staff will be interrogated regarding the discovery of these objectionable items.
