Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 16: Odisha is set to experience prolonged heavy rainfall until July 20 due to the influence of a low-pressure system currently situated over south Chhattisgarh adjoining Vidarbha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecasted the development of another low-pressure area over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19.
According to IMD, southern districts of Odisha are expected to receive heavy rain over the next three days, with isolated instances of very heavy rainfall likely on July 19-20.
A yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Malkangiri on July 16. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar may see partly cloudy skies with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers.
The forecast continues with expectations of heavy rain in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Koraput on July 17, followed by potential heavy rain in Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, and Nabarangpur on July 18.
On July 19, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, and Ganjam districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm), with heavy rain possible in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Nuapada, Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Cuttack.
Looking ahead to July 20, heavy to very heavy rainfall may persist in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Balangir, with additional heavy rainfall anticipated in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Nayagarh, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nuapada districts.
Overall, light to moderate rain with thundershowers is expected over most areas in Interior Odisha and many coastal districts of the state in the coming days.
