Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 13: The Opposition parties in Odisha, BJD and Congress, have intensified criticism against the Mohan Majhi government following the alleged assault of Baikunthanath Pradhan, an officer posted at Raj Bhavan, by Governor Raghubar Das’ son.
Speaking at a press conference, BJD leader Pratap Deb condemned the incident as “unfortunate” and “disgraceful.” He expressed dismay over the lack of police action despite an FIR filed immediately after the incident on July 7. Deb questioned the government’s commitment to justice, especially given its promises to the people of the state.
Highlighting the responsibility of the Home and General Administration departments under the Chief Minister, Deb urged the CM to ensure justice for the victim.
Earlier in the day, members of youth and student wings of the Congress were detained by police during a demonstration at Raj Bhavan, demanding swift action in the case. They have threatened further protests, including a potential gherao of the DGP office, if action against the assailants is not taken promptly.
Senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik also expressed concern over the incident involving Lalit Kumar, the Governor’s son, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for Baikunthanath Pradhan.
