Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), May 1: In anticipation of the upcoming first-round elections in Odisha, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to campaign for the BJP in Cuttack on May 5th.
BJP Cuttack MP candidate Bhartruhari Mahatab confirmed that Jaishankar, a former diplomat-turned-politician, will participate in an event at the Nishamani Convention Hall in the city. Mahatab also disclosed that several other national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will join the campaign trail in Odisha in the coming days.
Bhartruhari, a longstanding figure representing BJD from Cuttack since 1998, is seeking re-election from the parliamentary constituency for the seventh term, albeit under the BJP banner.
Earlier announcements by BJP Odisha unit vice president Golak Mohapatra revealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plans to address two public rallies in Berhampur and Nabarangpur parliamentary constituencies on May 6th. This visit marks the second occasion in eight days that a national leader from the saffron party will visit Berhampur in Ganjam district, considered a stronghold of the BJD.
The campaign momentum was initiated on April 25th by Union Minister Amit Shah from Sonepur, followed by BJP national president J P Nadda’s address at a Vijay Sankalp Samavesh in Ambapua near Berhampur on April 28th.
