SJTA Puts Safety First for Chandan Yatra Amid Ritual Preparations

Chandan Yatra preparations.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has finalized arrangements for the sacred Chandan Yatra and Akshaya Tritiya festivals. At a meeting chaired by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, key safety measures were announced, including a complete ban on fireworks at Narendra Pushkarini. This decision follows last year’s tragic incident of fatalities caused by fireworks.

In addition to banning fireworks, SJTA has introduced an insurance scheme to protect devotees and servitors during the festival. Two first-aid centers will be set up to ensure medical support is readily available. Ritual schedules for the ceremonial boat rides, a highlight of Chandan Yatra, have also been approved.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is set to enhance temple preservation efforts by adorning the Ratnabhandar doors with gold and silver. Community engagement was a key feature of the meeting, with ten students from Sevayat families honored for academic excellence.

Preparations for Rath Yatra are also underway, starting with chariot wood consecration on Akshaya Tritiya.
