Deogarh Home Guard Confesses to Murder After Marriage Dispute

Deogarh police have arrested a serving home guard for strangling a 32‑year‑old woman after she allegedly pressured him to marry her.

The accused, Srikar Sunani, confessed to killing Pratima Majhi on November 21 in the Kukudadhuda jungle under the Laimura police station.

Pratima, who had separated from her husband six years ago, was living with her father when she developed a relationship with Srikar, a widower with three children. Though he initially promised marriage, tensions escalated after he secretly remarried five months ago.

On the night of the incident, Srikar lured Pratima to the jungle, where they consumed alcohol. When she once again insisted on marriage, he strangled her in fear of social humiliation and fled.

Her father lodged a complaint the next day, leading police to trace Srikar through phone records.

Deogarh Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Mishra announced the breakthrough, crediting scientific investigation for the arrest.

Srikar has been sent for medical examination and will be produced in court.

Authorities emphasised swift justice in the case, which underscores the tragic consequences of broken promises in relationships.
