Barbil (OT Webdesk): Barbil Police has launched a strict enforcement drive to curb traffic violations and enhance road safety, acting under directives from Keonjhar Superintendent of Police (SP).
The operation targets wrongful parking, reckless overtaking, intentional roadblocks and drunk driving —all of which have been identified as major contributors to accidents in the region.
Since the intensive MV enforcement drive began on April 25, a total of ₹12,93,500/- in fines has been imposed and collected from 260 traffic violators across key locations under Barbil Police Station, including Bhadrasahi, Serenda, Barbil town, and other areas within its jurisdiction.
Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Ashok Kumar Nayak of Barbil Police Station affirmed, “This enforcement drive will continue to ensure public safety. We are committed to maintaining strict traffic discipline and reducing road accidents.”
Beyond police intervention, Barbil Civil Society, one of the leading intellectual bodies in the Joda-Barbil mining sector, is stepping up its ongoing efforts to promote road safety awareness.
The organisation, which has long been engaged in educating the public on responsible road usage, is now planning to convene a high-level Road Safety Meeting in Barbil.
To facilitate this initiative, the Barbil Civil Society has formally urged the Sub-Collector of Champua to set a date and time for the meeting, ensuring that all key stakeholders from industry and mining representatives, transporters, truck owners, local administrative officials and intellectuals are actively involved in discussions to develop long-term solutions for improving road safety.
Given the significance of this drive, similar enforcement measures should be extended to Joda, Rugudhi, Bolani, and Bamebari police stations, under the Barbil sub-divisional limit, to effectively curb violations and ensure safer roads across the region.
With police authorities and civic bodies working together, Barbil is paving the way for a more disciplined and secure road network, ensuring the well-being of commuters and businesses alike.
