Orissa High Court Slams Authorities Over Cuttack Waterlogging, Orders Urgent Action

Cuttack, July 26(OT webdesk): The Orissa High Court has strongly reprimanded civic and railway authorities over chronic waterlogging in Cuttack, citing years of inaction on key drainage projects.

Despite Rs 15 crore being sanctioned to the Railways by WATCO three years ago, no work has commenced at the Matagajpur site.

The court has directed a joint inspection on July 27 involving the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Railways, Drainage Department, and Advocate Committee to assess the delay and recommend immediate remedial steps.

Advocate Committee member Saroj Padhi emphasised the urgency, noting that waterlogging begins within 15 minutes of rainfall.

The court also flagged mismanagement at Cuttack City Hospital and the lack of parking at the under-construction Matrumangal Gruha. The R&B Department assured completion by June, prompting the bench to stress timely execution.

A high-level committee, including the CMC Commissioner, has been formed to fast-track solutions to the city’s infrastructure woes.
