Cuttack, July 19(OT webdesk) — In a landmark move poised to redefine Odisha’s milk economy, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a strategic partnership between the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED).
The collaboration sets an ambitious target: ramping up milk production from 72 lakh litres to 274 lakh litres/day by 2047, directly empowering over 15 lakh dairy farmers.
Key infrastructural investments totalling Rs 7.5 crore include 62 newly inaugurated staff quarters, advanced milk powder packaging machinery, and 22 state-of-the-art milk tankers, all boosting OMFED’s delivery capacity.
Central to the pact is the Kamadhenu Scheme, distributing 10,000 high-yielding cows like Gir and Sahiwal breeds, with up to 70% financial assistance. Notably, Rs 71 crore has benefited 3 lakh farmers in FY 2024–25 alone.
To champion sustainability, a biogas plant will transform cow dung into cooking fuel and fertiliser, supporting the state’s vision of a self-sustaining “Gaumata Economy.”
OMFED’s product line is expanding to include ghee, paneer, ice cream, pedas, and more, with 30+ metric tonnes of ghee earmarked for Lord Jagannath’s Mahaprasad—creating fresh employment opportunities for Odisha’s youth.
The ceremonial event featured interactions between CM Majhi and farmers, alongside a presentation on dairy policy. With tradition and technology walking hand-in-hand, Odisha’s dairy sector is set to script an era of innovation and inclusivity.
