Bhubaneswar(OT Webdesk): A serious security breach unfolded late Friday night in Balasore district, Odisha, after a pickup van carrying explosives collided with a stationary truck near Alipur Chhak on National Highway-16.
The vehicle, registered in Balasore and reportedly travelling from Cuttack, suffered extensive front-end damage.
Upon discovering the van was loaded with a large quantity of explosives, locals quickly alerted Highway police. However, by the time authorities reached the scene, the driver had absconded.
The van was seized and taken to the Soro police station as investigators began efforts to identify the vehicle’s owner and track down the missing driver. Authorities are probing the origin, destination, and intended use of the explosives.
The incident has sparked concerns over the unchecked movement of hazardous materials on public highways, reigniting calls for enhanced surveillance and stricter transportation protocols to prevent potential disasters.
