Odisha CM announces ex-gratia assistance for Panchayat representatives in case of death or disability

Bhubaneswar, July 17 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced financial assistance for Panchayat representatives in the event of death or disability during their tenure.

According to the announcement, the scheme will cover all representatives under the Panchayati Raj system,from ward members to Zilla Parishad Presidents.

In the event of death due to any reason during their term, the next of kin of the deceased representative will receive an ex-gratia amount of Rs.2 lakh.

In case of complete disability — such as the loss of both eyes, hands, or legs, the concerned representative will also be eligible for Rs.2 lakh. For partial disability, including the loss of one eye, hand, or leg, Rs.1 lakh will be provided.

The Chief Minister stated that the decision was taken recognizing the challenges and risks faced by Panchayat representatives in the course of their duties under the constitutional framework.

“These grassroots representatives are directly connected with the people, assisting them in resolving various issues and playing a vital role in rural development,” said a release from the Chief Minister’s Office.
