Bhubaneswar, July 16(OT Webdesk) — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for five districts in Odisha—Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda—as heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, continues to affect the region.
This weather shift is driven by two low-pressure systems—one stationed over northwest Madhya Pradesh and another developing over the Bay of Bengal. These systems are impacting rainfall across Odisha’s coastal, interior, and northern zones.
Intense showers are expected through July 17, with conditions gradually easing by July 19. Meanwhile, residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant due to the possible rise in river water levels.
In the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall has already been recorded in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Balasore.
Thunderstorm warnings remain in place for districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation, urging citizens to follow local advisories and stay updated as intermittent rainfall may persist into the week
