Bhubaneswar, July 15 (UNI) Eveready, a South African company, has expressed interest in setting up wind turbines in various districts of Odisha.
The company made a presentation in this regard during a meeting on renewable energy held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo.
Singh Deo stated that India has a long history of wind energy generation spanning over four decades.
He said Odisha is actively working toward achieving its renewable energy targets for both wind and solar power by utilizing its natural resources, including a long coastline and barren hilltops.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the energy portfolio, emphasised that integrating solar and wind energy is crucial for maintaining a reliable power grid.
The meeting focused on assessing the potential for wind energy production in the state, identifying challenges, and exploring feasible strategies to enhance capacity in order to meet the Nationally Determined Commitments (NDCs).
According to sources, wind energy will play a vital role in India’s goal to achieve 50 per cent of its installed electric power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and to reach net-zero
emissions by 2070.
