Bhubaneswar, July 10 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today said as a power-surplus state in eastern India, the state is ready to supply surplus electricity to neighbouring eastern states through mutually agreed arrangements.
Addressing the 27th meeting of the Eastern Regional Council in Ranchi, Majhi stated that Odisha’s power sector reflects strong operational and financial health, with 99.9 per cent transmission availability—the highest in the country.
Despite the state’s challenging geography, marked by hilly terrain, dense forests and a large tribal population, Odisha has achieved nearly 100 per cent electrification, the Chief Minister said.
He noted that rural areas in Odisha receive up to 23 hours of electricity daily, while urban areas enjoy nearly uninterrupted 24-hour power supply.
Highlighting the state’s achievements, Majhi informed that three of Odisha’s four power utilities have earned A+ (plus) national rankings, reflecting excellence in service delivery.
In the field of renewable energy, Majhi said Odisha is the first state in eastern India to formulate an Energy Transition Action Plan. The plan aims to achieve a 40 per cent share of renewable energy (RE) by 2030, in accordance with the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022, and the national Panchamrit goals.
The state has also initiated small hydroelectric projects and wind resource assessments and welcomes regional collaboration for joint research and development efforts, he said.
To promote renewable energy across the eastern region, a Renewable Research Institute is being established in Odisha, the Chief Minister informed.
Further, Majhi said the state has proposed setting up a Regional Research and Testing Laboratory of the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) in Bhubaneswar to address the technical needs of the eastern region.
Expressing gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for convening the meeting, Majhi said the platform provides an important opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest, regional cooperation, and inclusive development.
“Let us reaffirm our commitment to inclusive growth, regional solidarity, and the welfare of our people,” Majhi added.
“Let this meeting not just be a review of pending issues, but a renewed beginning for purposeful action and regional transformation in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat,” he stated.
