CBI nabs MCL chief manager on bribery charge in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, July 10 (UNI) The CBI today arrested the chief manager (mining), public sector undertaking Mahanadi Coal Limited (MCL) in Basundhara operational area in Odisha’s Sundargarh district while demanding and accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from the complainant.
The case was registered by the CBI on Wednesday.

It was alleged that the accused chief manager (mining), Mahanadi Coal Limited (MCL), Akhilesh Kumar Verma demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant for facilitating the release of compensation fund amount of Rs.11,37,595 (Rs 11.37 lakh) in favour of the relative of the complainant towards compensation in acquisition of land matter.

After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant.

The MCL chief manager was caught red-handed while receiving the demanded amount at his office. When the complainant handed over the chemical-coated currencies to the accused at the predetermined spot, the CBI sleuths caught him.

Further investigation is underway, CBI said.
