Kendrapara, July 9 (UNI) The Ad-hoc Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court) of Kendrapara in Odisha today sentenced a youth to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for raping a mentally disabled girl from his village.
The court directed that if the convict fails to deposit the fine amount, he will have to undergo an additional month of imprisonment.
The accused, identified as Manas Kumar Samal of Paniola village under Kendrapara Sadar police limits, had repeatedly raped the girl in the absence of her father, who used to travel to Kolkata for livelihood.
The incident came to light on September 21, 2023, when the girl’s father noticed unusual behaviour in his daughter. She was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors found her to be five months pregnant.
Following the discovery, the victim’s father lodged an FIR with the Kendrapara Sadar police on September 26, 2023. Based on the complaint, the police arrested the accused and forwarded him to court.
Ad-hoc Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court), Tribikram Keshari Chinhara, after verifying the evidence and hearing the testimony of 18 witnesses, convicted the youth and awarded him the sentence.
