(OT Webdesk)A tragic incident unfolded in Patakarapali village of Odisha’s Nuapada district on Sunday morning when a wall at an under-construction poultry farm collapsed amid sudden heavy rainfall, killing two women and severely injuring a child.
The victims, identified as 35-year-old Balmati Sabar and 61-year-old Rupe Sabar, were inspecting the farm site along with 8-year-old Ridhi Sabar when the partially built wall gave way.
The farm was being constructed by Dibakar Sabar through a government-subsidised loan scheme.
Local sources revealed that continuous rainfall had weakened the structure, leading to the fatal collapse around 11 AM.
Balmati and Rupe were crushed by falling debris and died on the spot, while Ridhi sustained serious injuries.
Lakhana Police reached the scene promptly, providing first aid to the injured child and helping recover the bodies with assistance from villagers.
An investigation is now underway to determine possible structural lapses or safety oversights.
The incident has sparked grief across the village, highlighting once again the vulnerabilities of rural infrastructure in extreme weather conditions.
