Rengali Dam Releases First Floodwater of 2025; Precautionary Alerts Issued

Bhubaneswar, July 6(OT Webdesk): The Rengali Dam in Odisha released its first floodwater of the season on Saturday following a steady rise in the Brahmani River due to consistent upstream rainfall.

Officials confirmed a controlled discharge through one gate and the power channel, with no immediate flood threat in downstream areas.

By 6 PM, the reservoir’s water level had reached 121 metres, approaching its full capacity of 123.50 metres. An inflow of 2,489 cubic metres per second is currently being managed with a regulated outflow of 1,900 cubic metres per second.

Chief Engineer Hrudananda Mallick of the Water Resources Department stated that all operations are proceeding per standard protocols, including siren alerts and village-level warnings. He indicated that more gates could be opened if the inflow increases.

Districts including Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Angul, Jajpur, and Cuttack have been alerted. Flood control teams remain on high alert as continuous monitoring continues to ensure public safety.

“We are maintaining utmost vigilance and are prepared for all scenarios,” Mallick said.
