Himachal Pradesh rain disaster 2025

(OT Webdesk)Himachal Pradesh is reeling from the aftermath of incessant rains that have claimed at least 37 lives and caused damage exceeding Rs 400 crore, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.

The ongoing monsoon onslaught has severely affected Mandi district, particularly Thunag subdivision, where over 40 people remain missing.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall until July 7, prompting emergency alerts across the state.

Key infrastructure has been crippled, with more than 250 roads blocked, 500 transformers non-functional, and over 700 water supply systems disrupted.

Relief operations are underway, with the Indian Air Force conducting air-drops of essentials and multiple rescue teams, including NDRF, SDRF, Home Guards, and local authorities, working around the clock.

Temporary relief camps have been established to support displaced residents.

In Shimla, schools have been flooded, forcing closures and raising safety concerns among students and parents.

Authorities have cited climate change as a major factor behind the escalating severity of such disasters, pointing to broader environmental vulnerabilities in the Himalayan region.

As rescue and restoration efforts intensify, officials warn that the toll may rise further.
